Coonoor - The Romantic Blue Mountains

The call of the Red-Whiskered Bulbul echoing at every corner of The De Rock Jungle Resort,The Magpie Robin flying all around the sprawling tea estate, the mist all around ,a hot cup of tea and just one song
Hum Aur Tum Aur Yeh Samaa Kya Nasha Nasha Sa Hai
Boliye Na Boliye Sab Suna Suna Sa Hai
Hum Aur Tum Aur Yeh Samaa Kya Nasha Nasha Sa Hai............from the movie Dil Deke Dekho.

It was an early friday morning when we started to Coonoor through the Bangalore - Mysore Highway.A quick breakfast stop at the kamat , we took the Bypass road to reach the Nanjangud -Bandipur road.

After the brief checking done by the forest department near the Karnataka - TamilNadu border we enter the Mudumalai National Park.We took the Gudalur to reach ooty. One can also take the Masinagudi route just near the Mudumalai National Park, which will be shorter distance to reach Ooty, but will have to drive up the 36 Hairpin bends.I avoided this route primarily to drive through Gudalur ghat and stop at the Pine forest view though this route is 30kms more then than Masinagudi route. This route also has some bad patches along the way.

Around 12 in the noon we reached Coonoor which is the second largest hill station in the Nilgiris.
Some of the attractions of this place are Dolphin's Nose Viewpoint,Lamb's Rock,Sim's Park,Lady Canning's Seat.

Coonoor Toy train which runs between Coonoor,Mettupalayam and Ooty

Tucked away in the middle of tea estates ,De Rock Jungle Resort is around 11kms from the Coonoor railway. The drive through the Tea plantations on one side and the valley on the other is just wonderful.Weather was cool and pleasant when we reached the resort.

De Rock Resort offers three types of Cottages,Plains View ,Rain Forest View  and the Cliff View Cottage. The food is excellent here and they serve both vegetarian and non vegetarian and cooked by a british person.Oh yeah, an excellent cook who settled down in coonoor.

If you want to be left alone,do nothing, and enjoy the silence then probably you can just be at this place and take long walk around the tea estates. We went for a drive from Coonoor to Kodanad view point Via Kothagiri which is around 35 kms from Coonoor. More than the destination the drive is pretty good.

Kodanad View Point

Travelling back to Bangalore we took the Ooty Hairpin bends route to reach Bandipur .One should drive carefully through this route.
